1) Vacuuming Your Carpet
Vacuuming your carpet is something you should do regularly, especially if you have pets. Pet hair can get into the carpet and needs to be removed. If you have hired a company for a carpet replacement, or you are having carpet for the first time, then you will also find that lint can be removed using your vacuum as well.
Vacuuming can also deal with dry spills such as flour or seeds. If you are dusting as well, then ensure you have completed that first before you vacuum so that the dust falls to the floor before it is picked up.
2) Spot Treatment
If you get something spilled on your carpet such as a liquid, then you will need to do a spot clean to remove the liquid before it stains the carpet. To do this, you will need a white cloth, some carpet cleaning shampoo, and water to rinse afterward.
A white cloth is preferable as the cleaning solution may bring out the dye in a coloured cloth which might transfer to your carpet. You should then dab the cloth on the spill to remove most of the liquid. You can then spray on the carpet cleaning solution.
When the solution has sat for a short while, it can be dabbed with a clean cloth to remove the rest of the spill. You should then rinse the area to remove any last traces.
3) Carpet Cleaning Machines
As part of your regular carpet maintenance, you should either hire a carpet cleaning company, or hire a carpet cleaning machine to use yourself. These machines use a similar carpet cleaning solution to the spot cleaners, but they are low foaming.
Cleaning the carpet in this way only need to be done once or twice per year depending on how dirty your carpets become. It will also extend the life of the carpets before you need a carpet replacement.
