Garage Carpet Buying Guide: Which Option is Best?

Too often, garages are left as cold and unused spaces, without a proper floor or carpet to cushion your footsteps. Across New Zealand, we at Insta Carpets believe that garages are more than just concrete spaces to park the car – a carpet for garages in NZ can bring a new lease of life and purpose to this space. There are various garage carpet options for you to choose from, which we uncover in this blog post.

As for which option is best, this depends entirely on your preferences!

1. Carpet Tiles

The first option is carpet tiles. Although some do consider laying standard carpets in their garage, we don’t recommend this. Carpet tiles are generally made from a durable mix of polyester, nylon and polypropylene synthetic fibres that can withstand the various uses of a garage. They slot together without difficulty, and are often fire-resistant. They don’t wear away, and can be easily cleaned – ultimately, the benefits of carpet tiles for a garage are endless.

2. Vinyl Flooring

Though the next options on this list aren’t technically classified as a type of ‘carpet,’ they can mimic a carpet-like look and feel, so they’re worth consideration if you’re looking to outfit your garage with new flooring.

Vinyl flooring is a good option for a low-traffic garage, particularly vinyl composite tile, because it is packed with durable fillers that can withstand the pressure of tires, or the heavy weight of whatever items you’d like to store in your garage space. It must be noted though that vinyl floors require substantial maintenance – including buffing and waxing – to retain their attractive shine.

3. Rubber

Rubber tiles are as spongy as carpet, and can work perfectly in a garage reimagined as a home gym or children’s playroom. Available in different colours, rubber flooring is highly customisable and affordable. It’s also safe, durable and easy to clean – you can install it across the entire garage or a small section, depending on your needs. Be aware that rubber flooring works best on a level garage floor, unlike carpet, which can be more adaptable.

Whatever carpet for garages in NZ best suits your requirements, purchase it from Insta Carpets.
